KOLKATA:

Kolkata Knight Riders beat Chennai by ten runs in a rain-affected encounter decided by the Duckworth-Lewis method.

Chasing Chennai’s below-par 115, the hosts were comfortably placed to overhaul the total at 61 for two in ten overs when rain ended play. Despite losing two early wickets courtesy Ravichandran Ashwin (two for 12), Jacques Kallis (21*) and Manoj Tiwary (15*) ensured that there were no more hiccups.

Earlier, superb bowling by Kolkata restricted Chennai to 114 for four. Iqbal Abdullah (one for fifteen) spearheaded the bowling in strangling the  batting line-up. Subramaniam Badrinath’s 54 was the only highlight for Chennai.

Gayle destroys Punjab

Chris Gayle hit his second century of the season as the visitors never threatened to overhaul Bangalore’s mammoth 206. Sreenath Aravind snared a four-wicket haul as Punjab ended on a disappointing 120 for nine.

Earlier, Gayle launched an awe-inspiring onslaught smashing 107 off just 49 deliveries as his 111-run second-wicket stand with Virat Kohli (27) proved decisive in knocking the visitors out of the contest.
