Former chairman of National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) Ayaz Khan Niazi, the main accused in the NICL scam case, lodged an acquittal application in the court on Saturday claiming lack of evidence against him.

The hearing of the corruption case is being conducted in the federal anti-corruption court under Justice Pervaiz Khan Chang.

The court ordered the government counsel to appear in the next hearing with his counter arguments.

Niazi was summoned by the court last month of being allegedly involved in the corruption worth millions of rupees.

The court has also issued arrest warrants for Amin Qasim Dada, Javed Saeed and others in the NICL scam case. The hearing has been adjourned till May 20.

The banking court has also rejected Moonis Elahi's bail application in the case and has sent him to jail on judicial remand until May 12th.

Skeptic | 12 years ago | Reply Lack of evidence? Haven't a number of people already come forth to testify against this scumbag? Didn't they find several mony trails leading to his acounts? They should publicly hang him to set an example for all the other crooks in Pakistan.
