PESHAWAR: Peshawar police arrested two young men, identified as Asher and Shahab for harassing a girl by making public her objectionable pictures and videos and blackmailing for money.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, a police official said on Saturday the victim had registered a complaint at Phandu police station, stating that she became friends with Asher on Facebook and started chatting on the Messenger application.

The boy often used to call her and soon he was joined by Shahab, a friend of Asher, who threatened to kidnap her if she did not send them her pictures and videos in compromising attire, according to the official.

After sending the photos, she was subjected to a long period of blackmail, which started in March 2017 and continued until recently, said the official.

The suspects threatened her to make the images and videos public if they were not paid money. Acceding to the pressure, the victim took Rs200,000 from her father’s room without his knowledge and gave it to the blackmailers, he added.

Later, the suspects made all the photos and videos public after coming to know that the girl had got engaged.

The victim’s family only came to know about the whole episode after the suspects shared the objectionable images with her fiancé. The girl’s father and other family members then contacted police who arrested the two accused.
