Over the limit: Speeding claims four lives in DG Khan

Around 14 people, including a woman, were also injured in the accident

DERA GHAZI KHAN: A speeding bus on the Indus Highway ran over 18 bystanders, killing four and injuring others, including a woman on Friday.

According to police, the Adil Shah Coach was its way to Peshawar from Karachi ran over bystanders, a rickshaw and a motorcycle in Mana Ahmadani. They added that the accident occurred due to speeding. The injured were shifted to Dera Trauma Centre by rescue workers for medical treatment. However, the driver fled the scene.

Meanwhile, the Kot Chutta police cordoned off the area for two kilometres from the scene of the crime. Investigations are underway after a case was registered against the unknown driver.

Last year, a similar accident occurred near Mehmeed, where a speeding bus trampled 12 pedestrians standing on the corner of a street, all of whom lost their lives in the incident.

In a separate incident, armed men opened fire on a police security squad, injuring a policeman. The assailants fled the scene.

The incident took place at Pul Gajobi. The police security squad was conducting their routine patrol when they encountered three suspicious men on a motorcycle. They were in the process of stopping them when the assailants opened fire. Rescue workers shifted the injured officer to the hospital.

On receiving information of the incident, DPO DG Khan Ahmed Nawaz Cheema and other police officers reached the hospital to donate blood for the injured policemen.

He also looked into the medical treatment being offered to the injured constable and ordered for zero negligence in his treatment.
