SC demands list of serving dual national government officers

ISLAMABAD: The top court has given 15 days to all federal departments to file lists of all officers holding dual nationalities.

The three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar observed that they will examine the existence of this law and whether the law should be made for dual national officers.

The CJP said that presently they are just collecting data of all officers.



The secretary establishment appeared before the bench that currently seven officers have been identified who are holding dual nationality. However, responses from 20 departments are still awaited.

The bench also directed chief secretaries to submit names of dual national officers of grade 17 and above.

The CJP stated that they are just collecting data and will later determine what steps should be taken next. There are officers who have taken oaths twice.

"We have already disqualified parlimentarians who were holding dual nationality," he further added.

Judges holding dual-nationality

One Lahore High Court judge, Justice Jawwad Hassan, and one Sindh High Court judge, KK Agha, are holding dual nationality by birth.

Likewise, the report also shared details of lower judiciary judges who are holding dual nationality.



In Punjab, two judges – Ashfaq Ahmad Rana and Farkhanda Arshad – are holding dual nationality.

Likewise, Rashda Asad in Sindh and Farukh Ataullah Khan in K-P are dual nationals. One lower judiciary judge in Islamabad, Samia Noreen, holds the nationality of a foreign country.
