SC seeks report on condition of hospitals

Report demanded by top court within 15 days

LAHORE: The Supreme Court (SC) on Saturday sought a detailed report from medical superintendents of government hospitals in the city within 15 days regarding missing facilities and problems being faced by the hospitals.

The bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, passed the orders while hearing a suo motu notice on hospitals' condition at the Supreme Court Lahore Registry.

Medical superintendents of government hospitals in city appeared before the bench. The chief justice emphasised the need to improve the healthcare system in Lahore and ordered officials to ensure that the best facilities were available to patients.

"I want you to work for improving the healthcare system with the same passion with which the SC is looking into this issue," he told the officials present in court.

In response to a court query, the provincial health secretary said the capacity of three public hospitals of city had been increased during the past few years.

He also said that four small hospitals were constructed in Lahore in the last 10 years. At this, the chief justice asked the medical superintendents to share problems being faced by them for provision of quality healthcare.
