SHC CJ administers oath to newly-appointed judges

KARACHI: Six additional judges of the Sindh High Court (SHC) took an oath on Tuesday, raising the strength of the provincial high court to 39.

President Mamnoon Hussain, on the advice of the Prime Minister, appointed two district and sessions judges and four lawyers as additional judges of the SHC for a period of one year under Article 197 of the Constitution.

The ministry of law and justice had issued on February 3 a notification regarding appointment of the district and sessions judges Kausar Sultana Hussain and Irshad Ali Shah and lawyers Adnan Iqbal Chaudhry, Agha Faisal, Amjad Ali Sehto and Shamsuddin Abbasi.

SHC Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh administered the oath to the newly-appointed judges at a ceremony held on the high court's premises. They have been appointed for a period of one year expiring on February 5, 2019 subject to their confirmation as a permanent judge or otherwise.
