Secure children, strong Pakistan

Other provinces, too, should add sex education to the curriculum

Letter February 06, 2018

LAHORE: It is commendable that the Punjab government has introduced booklets in schools that consist of material on sex education, which is a realisation of the importance of the issue. The booklet titled ‘Secure Children, Strong Pakistan’, is to be given to children of and over 10 years of age in schools, to make them aware of self-protection while also making parents understand their responsibility about educating their kids on the subject.

It is an important step towards controlling child sexual abuse as for long and to date sex education has remained a taboo, big enough to keep elders from talking about it with their children. Hence, is the dreadful outcome where in most of the cases children until their puberty remain unaware and unable to sense the possible danger that an inappropriate treatment or a touch may bring along. Other provinces, too, should add sex education to the curriculum taught in schools.
