HYDERABAD: Three labourers were killed and two other persons injured when the roof of an under-construction room collapsed Monday afternoon in Hyderabad. The room was being constructed at the second storey of a house in the Hussainabad area.

The deceased labourers included two cousins, Muhammad Aleem Mallah and Abdul Rasheed Mallah, whose bodies were recovered from the debris by rescue teams. The third deceased, Irshad Solangi, was found injured at the site and was shifted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased cousins lived in a slum in Latifabad Unit 4 while Solangi belonged to Hussainabad.

A labourer, Yar Muhammad, and a police constable at Tando Yousuf police station, Aarib Gul, who was reportedly passing through the street at the time of the collapse, were injured. They were shifted to Liaquat University Hospital.

The police have detained former sub-inspector of special branch Aslam Abbassi for interrogation. He reportedly owns the house. Hussainabad SHO Niaz Ahmed Panhwar confirmed Abbassi's detention, stating that an FIR was likely to be registered on complaint of the labourers' families.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Saleem Rajput visited the site where he informed the media that an inquiry had been initiated regarding the incident.

The inquiry has been assigned to the Latifabad assistant commissioner. According to the DC, initial reports suggest that the construction work was initiated without obtaining prior approval from the Sindh Building Control Authority.
