Swimming: Thorpe set for November return

Five-time Olympic champion has been preparing for next years London games for the past two months in Switzerland.

SYDNEY: Five-time Olympic champion Ian Thorpe was on track to make a return to competitive swimming, confirmed his coach.

Australia’s most decorated Olympian announced his return to swimming for next year’s London Olympics and has spent the past two months working with coach Gennadi Touretski in Switzerland.

Under FINA rules Thorpe is not eligible to compete until November, but Touretski said he was confident Thorpe would be ready to begin competition immediately, as he builds towards Australia’s Olympic trials in March.
