Doctors aligned with the Young Doctors Association (YDA) chanted anti-government slogans for failing to provide security to doctors who, they claimed, were either being picked up or killed.
In this regard, they pointed out that Dr Khurshid had been murdered a month ago but the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police, which claims to be the well-trained, had failed to arrest his killers.
Doctors across K-P also held a token-strike, tying black ribbons on their arms. They asked the government to provide doctors with security, warning that failure to do so would open up doctors to attacks and that the government will be responsible for any resulting law and order situation.
“We will take to streets, boycott duties if the government fails to fulfil our demands,” K-P YDA President Dr Rizwan Kundi told the media, adding that in the past, the government had promised security for doctors but never fulfilled them.
A doctor to be, Asma was killed in Kohat on Monday after she allegedly refused a marriage proposal from Mujahid Afridi.
Afridi is said to have fled the country, but his brother was arrested by Kohat police and investigations into the case are underway.
