Ring Road, motorways key to Punjab transport

CTO says transporters are the backbone of the economy

LAHORE: A seminar to discuss the importance of Ring Road and Motorway was held on Thursday.

Chief Traffic Police Officer (CTO) Rai Ijaz Ahmad, SSP Motorways Kamran Adil, project director Colonel Jamal, director operations colonel Asim, RTA Secretary Ghias-ul-Din, Ring Road FWO commandant, Sheikhupura DSP and members of transport unions including Mini Good Transporters and the All Truck Association were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Ijaz said the use of Ring Road and motorways helped drivers save time and fuel. At these routes, the drivers can drive their vehicles without any disruption. He said that transporters were as important for the economy of Pakistan as a backbone for the body. “The nation’s development was dependent on it. City Traffic Police (CTPL) was focused on the flow of traffic in the city and provision of the best travelling services to them.” He said awareness campaigns were being launched at entry and exit points of the city to raise awareness about importance of Ring Road and motorways.

During the campaign, they would inform locals about traffic route plans, Ring Road interchanges and other information.

He asked the drivers to keep their documents, driving licences and route permits with them.

SSP Motorways Kamran Adil and project director Colonel Jamal gave a detailed briefing on M-Tag. He asked them to install FWO on their vehicles as it would save them from waiting in long-queues. They further said that they were introducing an app on the pattern of the CTPL to help owners of vehicles locate their position etc.

Best training facilities

Punjab Police Inspector General Captain (Retired) Arif Nawaz Khan said international standards must be observed in all colleges and schools for the best training and guidance of constables and sub-inspectors. He added no bad behavior from instructors towards trainees would be tolerated.

Nawaz said the feasibility report of moving the Punjab Police central warehouse from Qurban Lines to the Police Training College in Sihala must be created as early as possible so that immediate work could start on the project.

He expressed these views while addressing a session of top brass officers at CPO office. Addl IG Training Tariq Masood Yaseen, DIG Training Waqar Ahmad Abbasi, DIG Telecommunication Shahid Javed, AIG Development Ahsan Younis and PS to IGP Sajjad Hassan Manj were among the officers in attendance.
