SHC irked over non-compliance of apex court orders

Petitioners have not been appointed as teachers despite SC's ruling in 2012

KARACHI: Expressing its displeasure over non-compliance of the Supreme Court's (SC) order, the Sindh High Court (SHC) warned on Tuesday to issue warrants for arrest of the provincial education authorities concerned in case they failed to appoint three female primary school teachers within a week.

Headed by Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, a two-judge bench was hearing a petition filed by the three primary school teachers, Kishwar, Sadaf and Tehmina.

The petitioners had approached the high court against the education authorities for not implementing the orders passed by the SC regarding their appointment.

The petitioner's lawyer, Shuaun Nabi, informed the SHC that the SC had ordered the education authorities to appoint the petitioners in 2012. However, the authorities had ignored the orders of the apex court, he alleged.



The lawyer argued that the petitioners fulfilled the required criteria for appointment against the posts of primary school teachers, yet, the officials were denying them the job, which was a sheer violation of their fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution.

The judges expressed displeasure over the failure of the authorities concerned in implementing the orders passed by the apex court. The bench granted a week time to them for the appointment of the petitioners and sought a compliance report.

In case of failure to comply with the court's order, the judges warned to issue warrants for arrest of those found responsible for non-compliance.
