Elahi demands action against those staging fake encounters

LAHORE:
Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) senior central leader Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has said that the Supreme Court should also take action against those who are ordering and staging fake police encounters in Punjab.

He was speaking at a meeting with a delegation of Sheikhupura District Bar Association in Lahore on Sunday. The lawyers’ delegation included Sheikhpura DBA President Chaudhry Ghulam Murtaza Virk, Secretary Rehana Naz Ghumman, Ghulam Rasool Chaudhry, Nasir Javed Cheema and others.

He said, “The struggle of lawyers’ fraternity for supremacy of the Constitution and getting justice for the oppressed is bright chapter of our history and those blocking the way of justice will have to go now.”


He added that the Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif had scrapped all the development projects that were initiated during his tenure as the chief minister, including the facility of free treatment and operation in the government hospitals for lawyers.

Elahi said that other steps taken for the lawyer’s community during his tenure included regular annual funds provision to the tehsil bar level, construction of judicial complexes in all districts, residential colonies for lawyers and their appointments in all government departments as legal advisers.

On the occasion, the lawyers praised the efforts of Elahi for the welfare and well-being of the lawyers community. They appreciated quick provision of justice and curbing of crime, establishment of Punjab Criminal Prosecution for ensuring effective punishments to criminals.
