KARACHI: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, in his meeting with Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing, who called on him at CM House on Thursday, said that people of Karachi are expecting start of work on the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project.

Shah said that he had discussed KCR's financial close with the China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) authorities, including the ambassador, but work on the KCR, as planned earlier, could not be started on the birthday of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

The ambassador told the CM that the KCR was in the pipeline and its financial close is expected by the end of next month. The CM said that his team is in China and, with the support of the ambassador, it would be approved.

Shah hoped that work on the KCR project would start by March 23. "I am going to give good news to the people of Karachi who need work on the KCR [to start] in March," he said.

Other projects such as the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone and Keti Bandar were also discussed and the ambassador, on invitation of the CM, vowed to visit Thar next month.
