Businessmen to be made part of reconciliation committees

IG Temuri says a Citizen Police Liaison Committee under consideration for Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police chief has asked members of business community to become part of dispute resolution committees set up for out of court settlements

Speaking at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry IG Sultan Azam Temuri said these committees help reduce backlog of cases in the courts and allows settlement of disputes in an amiable manner.

“Reconciliation committees will be set up to settle disputes out of courts,” he said assuring that, “only people of good repute will be included in these committees after thorough investigations.”

Temuri said business community would be given representation in such committees. Besides, he said, a Citizen Police Liaison Committee was also under consideration for Islamabad.

The police chief assured that smart pickets would be established in Islamabad to streamline traffic flow on roads and all faulty security cameras would be set right under Safe City Project.

He said that on implementation of all these measures, people would see marked difference in the performance of Islamabad Police. He assured that all highlighted issues of business community would be addressed to ensure conducive environment for growth of business activities.

Highlighting other initiatives, he said Islamabad has total 22 police stations out of which seven would be declared as model police stations in this month. Gradually all police stations would be made model thanas to provide better services to the people.

He said record of all police stations including FIR has been computerised and technology would be used to introduce scientific investigations in police stations. He said to bridge the gap between police and people, community policing was being developed and all segments of society including business community would be involved in community policing.

Inspector General Sultan Azam Temuri on Tuesday enumerated his five point agenda for Islamabad police.

Speaking to the business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) IG Temuri said he was working on inculcating five core values in Islamabad police to make it a model of excellence and role model for the country.

Explaining the core values, he said Islamabad police would be made a service-oriented and people friendly force. He said professionalism would be developed in police and equal application of law for all would be ensured. He said Islamabad police would be made corruption free as he has zero-tolerance for corruption in police.

Temuri stressed that business community should resist corruption in police and help in identifying corrupt people so that police force could be purged of corrupt elements.

ICCC President Sheikh Amir Waheed said surveillance of security cameras should be further increased in all markets and industrial areas under Safe City Project and this project should be made more effective.

Waheed said traffic rush on pickets should be further reduced by taking new measures and police behaviour on pickets should be made polite and people friendly. He was of the view that establishment of rule of law would help in resolving police related major issues of people. He assured that ICCI would fully cooperate with Islamabad Police in its endeavours aimed at further improving law and order situation in the city.

ICCI SVP Muhammad Naveed apprised the IGP of various issues the business community was facing with regards to the police force.

Prominent members of the chamber Khalid Javed, Abdul Rauf Alam, Tariq Sadiq, Mian Akram Farid, Zubair Ahmed Malik, Khalid Iqbal Malik, Zafar Bakhtawari, Mian Shaukat Masud, Ajmal Baloch, Khalid Mian, Zahid ullah Habibi, Yousaf Rajput, Zia Abbasi, Chaudhry Asif and Nasira Ali also highlighted issues that need urgent attention of police.
