Police rule out murder in MQM leader’s death

Authorities unable to find criminal elements in the death of Professor Hassan Zafar Arif

KARACHI: Police investigators probing the mysterious death of senior leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) - London Professor Hassan Zafar Arif have ruled out murder but are still unable to find criminal elements in his death.

According to Zone East police chief DIG Sultan Khawaja, social media users attempted to turn Prof Arif’s natural death into a murder by sharing pictures of his body.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, he said no torture marks were found on Prof Arif’s body.

DIG Khawaja said that the body of the deceased was found in a car along with Rs17,000 and some medicine.

He said that the investigations remained under way and the police were waiting for the chemical examination report to ascertain the cause of death.

DIG Khawaja was nominated to carry out the investigations into the scholar’s death.
