Boy stages his own kidnapping to get money from parents

Police tracked Zubair through his mobile phone

HYDERABAD: A young boy allegedly staged his own kidnapping for ransom in Hyderabad but his naivety led to the police quickly 'recovering' him and laying his drama bare.

On Sunday afternoon, the Naseem Nagar police station received a complaint that 14-year-old Zubair Ahmed Bajkani, who hailed from Kashmore district and lived in Hyderabad for studies, had been kidnapped.

Zubair's cousin Ashfaq Bajkani informed the police that Zubair had been kidnapped when they were having tea from a roadside hotel in Qasimabad. "He left his chair telling me that he wanted to wash his face and then didn't return," Ashfaq told the police. The cousin tried to contact him on his mobile phone but found that it was switched off.



Later, Zubair's family, based in a village in Kashmore district, tried to contact him but initially found that his number was switched off. After some time, when Zubair attended the family's call, he told them that he had been kidnapped and the kidnappers had demanded Rs2 million to Rs2.5 million for his release.

According to SHO Muhammad Ameen Khoso, the police started investigations when they were informed about the kidnapping. First, they questioned Zubair's friends who lived in an apartment in Qasimabad.

The trickery was unveiled when the police started tracking the mobile phone's location. "We tracked the mobile's location near the river embankment in Naseem Nagar and found that the boy was there alone," said the SHO. Zubair, later, disclosed that he had staged his fake kidnapping to trick his parents to give him money.
