LAHORE: Parents and schoolchildren of private schools gathered outside the Lahore Press Club on Thursday to protest the rising fee of such institutions.

The protest was held by the Parents Action Committee (PAC), who had been protesting against the fee hike of private schools in the recent months, along with Civil Society Network. The protesters demanded that the government should act on the ever-increasing fee by private schools.

Children, in their school uniform, also took part in the protest. The children held placard asking the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) to take notice of the increase in fee of private schools. Parents, on the other hand, demanded that the increase in fee should be kept in check by the government.

Civil Society Network President Abdullah Malik said that this was the sixth consecutive protest by parents. He said that the government was well-aware of the issue but seemed unable to stop a large number of private schools from increasing fee. Malik demanded that the CJP should take notice of the situation similar to his notice of medical colleges. He said that children, who should be in schools, were on the streets demanding education, which was the responsibility of the government.
