LAHORE: A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court seeking directions to the federal government not to hand over Osama Bin Laden’s body to American authorities.

The Al Qaeda leader was killed in an operation conducted by American special forces in Abbottabad on Sunday night. Barrister Mohammed Javaid Iqbal Jaffree filed the petition on Monday seeking to stop the government from allowing Bin Laden’s body to leave the country. He appeared not to believe a statement by US authorities that Bin Laden’s body had been buried at sea.

The petition also challenged the US military action on Pakistani territory as a violation of the sovereignty of the country and of international law.

Jaffree asked the court to direct the government to arrest and take action against those who had tipped-off the US about Bin Laden’s presence in Pakistan. He also asked the court to seek a report from the government about the US operation in Abbottabad.

There were several unsubstantiated claims in the petition. Jaffree said there were reports that the US armed forces had captured at least 120 people, including two of Bin Laden’s wives, in the operation. He said six “disguised Americans” were also killed in the “staged performance”. He said the location of the operation close the Pakistan Military Academy at Kakul was “a well-designed slap in the face of the Pakistani military establishment”. He said there was also a “suggestion” that Bin Laden had been arrested somewhere along the Pak-Afghan border and brought to Abbottabad “for show business purposes”.

The aforementioned barrister must learn not cry over spilt milk and deal with the consequences. IF the military had indeed given Mr. Laden asylum it must now provide proper justification, however if this event was indeed staged, then our Interior Ministry must deliver a proper report to both the National Assembly (on live television) and the Foreign Ministry. The Pakistani people demand an explanation as well as the ability to weather the inevitable diplomatic storm.Recommend

I wonder how the American would react if they find foreign military doing operations on its soil without its consent. Perhaps such action should take to take out George bush, and of course the American would gladly welcome the unconsented foreign military presence… Would they? Recommend

In any other country this kind of frivolous petition would not be accepted by any court let alone HC for hearing. Looks like Pakistan’s superior courts have too much time at hand to pounce on these political and hypothetical cases.

Pay attention to cases that are waiting for decades without any hearing. Like Air Marshal Asghar Khan’s case.

Barister Jafri wants to be dear to Akas….what a chip way to get publicity and place in news papers. He should know US did not filed any petion asking court’s permision to allow them to conduct this operation and I don’t think they will ask Mr. Jafri’s court for further permisson in case (even)they want OBL’S deadbody. The Americans supposedly had the house he lived in under surveillance for at least a year, yet during the entire surveillance they didn’t have the slightest clue weather the house residents had any outside contact.

So now after a about a year of monitoring Bin Laden’s alleged hideout they decide to assume he had military contacts in Pakistan. Propaganda at it’s best.Recommend
