AJK journalists must work towards promotion of Kashmir cause: Midhat Shahzad
Sec Information, Tourism and IT aims to promote mass communication, tourism in AJK

Secretary Information , Tourism and Information Technology of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Midhat Shahzad on Monday said that besides keeping people updated about daily happenings journalists must also work for positive image building of the country and AJK.
Midhat Shahzad expressed these views while talking to senior journalists after assuming charge as Secretary Information.

“We have to work hard to promote tourism both in North and South regions of AJK. We must aim to provide job opportunities to the unemployed, educated youth in private sector. We have spectacular tourism destinations from Bhimber to Taubut and Kotli to Bagh that must be promoted during the whole year,” Shahzad noted.
She further said that AJK has ideal locations and tourism destinations to promote winter tourism in Mirpur Division. In summer, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot , Bagh and Chikar are full of natural beauty to attract much more visitors of the country, she remarked.
“Journalists living in AJK have different duties as compared to the rest of the country. They must work for the national integration and the promotion of Kashmir cause.
"Besides informing, educating and entertaining the people it is also the prime duty of local journalists to work hard for the promotion of right to self-determination and expose Indian atrocities and ceasefire violations on the Line of Control (LoC) ,” Shahzad added.

She subsequently said that all available resources would be utilised to equip and make the information department state-of-the-art to make way from tradition to innovation swiftly.
Shahzad who is also the secretary of Information Technology shared her views to promote the electronic governance in the region saying which is need of the hour to save time of both government officials and people.
“We are working on land automation and this programme has also been launched in few tehsils of AJK on pilot basis which very soon would be expanded from urban to rural areas as well,” Secretary Shahzad added.
She said that monthly goals would be set in both Tourism, Information and Information Technology departments to enhance the performance of these all departments and make them a story of success among other government departments.
Midhat Shahzad further said that she will take up the establishment of journalism and mass communication department in any public sector university with the government of AJK as it is our national responsibility to promote standard journalism that is possible only after the launching of proper journalism department in the region.
She said Right to Information law would also be implemented in AJK as it has been enforced in the other provinces of the country however, saying she believes in access to information to promote the healthy journalism in the society and make all departments accountable.
