Green belts to welcome railway passengers entering the city

Tracks to be cleaned in collaboration with Pakistan Railways, says mayor

KARACHI: Mayor Wasim Akhtar said cleaning of the area around the railway track from Cantt Station to Landhi will be carried out in collaboration with Pakistan Railways and green belts along the route will be established so that passengers entering Karachi get a positive impression of the city.

He mentioned that garbage lifting is being done in all districts of the city which would improve the sanitation condition around the railway tracks. “All possible cooperation will also be provided for removal of encroachments on Railway lands,” he added.

Akhtar expressed these views while talking to Pakistan Railways Divisional Superintendent Aijaz Ahmed Buriro on Tuesday. Buriro said that people living on both sides of the railway tracks use the track as a garbage dumping site, which not only portrays a bad image but is hazardous to the residents’ health.



Buriro said the locations that need immediate attention are the Cantt Station yard, Drigh Road, Malir City Station and the surroundings of Landhi Station. He requested Akhtar to immediately issue instructions for the removal of garbage from the railway track and the mayor directed the officers concerned to carry out a survey of the areas pinpointed by the divisional superintendent.
