LHC orders judges to show cause for misleading SC

Both judges denied hearing cases against PMDC in their courts, while senior judge stated otherwise

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday issued show-cause notices to two civil judges for misleading Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar in a suo motu case against the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

The PMDC is the primary watchdog and regulator of medical education and practice in Pakistan.

A two-member bench, headed by Justice Nisar and comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan, while hearing the suo motu notice in the Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry the other day, had sought details of cases against the PMDC regarding improper fee structure and admission criteria of private medical colleges from district courts of the province.



Two civil judges, justices Tariq Khan and Waqar Ahmed, in the report submitted mentioned that there were no such cases in their courts.

However, later the senior civil judge (administration) informed the LHC via telephone that both the judges were hearing a case each against the PMDC in their courts.

Directorate of District Judiciary Director General Akmal Khan, through District and Sessions Judge Abid Hussain Qureshi, issued show-cause notices to the civil judges asking, “Why shouldn’t a departmental inquiry be initiated [against them] for submitting wrong reports.”

The district and sessions judge was directed to take explanation from both the judges and submit the report in the LHC.
