The capital’s businessmen have urged the government to take urgent measures to ratify a draft law on rent control.

This demand was made by Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Acting President Nisar Ahmed Mirza on Friday while talking to a delegation of local traders who met with him to discuss their problems.

Noting that the law was a long-standing demand of traders in the capital, Mirza said that delays in enacting the amended rent law bill had forced traders at almost all markets of the capital to rise up in protest.

The delegation of traders said that after consultation with all stakeholders, an amended bill of rent control act for Islamabad had been prepared which was presented at the National Assembly a long time ago.

However, no action has been taken so far to pass the bill giving rise to rent disputes.

The situation was also creating frustrations amongst the trading community since they were feeling insecure about their business future.

They stressed that the government should pass the bill into law without wasting any further time so that traders could conduct their business with a sense of security and peace.
