1,000 cops to be deployed in capital on New Year

Markets told to hire more guards, set up CCTV cameras

ISLAMABAD: In a bid to maintain security on the eve of the new year, the Islamabad Police has devised an elaborate plan which would see around 1,000 cops deployed around the city.

Moreover, the traffic police will also coordinate with the city police to maintain law and order and control traffic on the occasion, a police official said.

He added that police contingents will be deployed at key places such as shopping centres and main markets for the safety of the public.’

He advised that the public should behave in a civilized manner and avoid any irresponsible activity on the occasion.

He detailed that extra contingents will be deployed at Super Market, Jinnah Super Market, Blue Area, Karachi Company market, Sectors F-10, F-11, G-10, G-11, Faizabad, Aabpara Market, Shakarparian, IJP road and the Express Highway.



Police commandos will be also deployed at different locations around the city while DSPs and inspectors will be patrolling the streets.

Moreover, all police stations have been told to ensure stringent security arrangements in their respective jurisdictions while special ITP teams have been constituted to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Traffic police will also coordinate with the city police to maintain law and order and control traffic on the occasion, he added.

Market security reviewed

Meanwhile, Islamabad Police officials reviewed security arrangements at the Jinnah Super and Super Market.

After consulting with the trading and business community, they decided to further improve security arrangements at these commercial centres.

SP-City Zubair Ahmed Sheikh conducted a meeting with the trader’s union of Jinnah Super, Super Market, and Blue Area.

During the meeting, it was decided to deploy additional security guards and to ensure vigilance, especially during the night.  The meeting, which was attended by ASP Secretariat, traders union and representatives of both markets, it was decided that closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be set up outside shops which can cover the car parking.

Moreover, the market’s union and the business community will ensure that guards deployed at the centres are in proper uniform, are young and wear jackets with whistles.
