Facilities ordered for Sehwan health institute's uplift

MRI and CT scan machines to be purchased for SASIMS

KARACHI: The provincial government will purchase MRI and CT scan machines for Syed Abdullah Shah Institute of Medical Sciences (SASIMS), Sehwan at a cost of Rs90 million.

The decision to purchase the machines was taken by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah at the meeting of the SASIMS Board of Governors (BoG) at CM House on Friday.

The SASIMS was a significant health institute and teaching facility located on the Indus Highway, the CM said. It must be made as one of the prestigious institutes in terms of health services and medical facilities, he added.

"There should be a compound wall around the 100-acre plot allotted to the institute," Murad said. He approved Rs30 million for the wall's construction and directed the Jamshoro deputy commissioner to remove all encroachments around the plot and from different parts of the city. "The encroachments not only cause traffic issues but also deface the city, therefore, they must be removed," he said.



The meeting was attended by Health Minister Dr Sikandar Mandhro, Principal Secretary to CM Sohail Rajput, Health Secretary Dr Fazlullah Pechuho, SASIMS Director Dr Moinuddin Siddiqui, and members of the BoG, Syed Asif Ali Shah, Dr Ahsan Siddiqui, Mr Manzoor Soomro and Dr Raheem Bux Bhatti, among others.

The board also approved recruitment of one diabetes specialist, 30 staff nurses, 14 lady health workers, 40 sanitary workers, 20 ward servants, 20 naib qasids and other staff.

The CM also directed the SASIMS director to appoint an internal auditor. Internal audit would ensure transparency in the affairs of the institute, he said.

The board also approved the establishment of a nursing school for female. Initially, a batch of 20 students would be enrolled at the nursing school, the board decided. The CM directed high standards be maintained at the nursing school.

The CM was informed that satellite facility of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases had been established at the three major wards of the institute after which it needed another building to continue its approved projects and health services. On this, Shah approved the construction of three wards, a hostel and other buildings at the institute. "I will arrange funds for the purpose," he said.



The board also discussed and approved the establishment of a canteen at the institute. The CM directed the institute's administration to establish a canteen providing best quality food.

The board also approved the purchase of an incinerator, filtration plant and PCR machine for hepatitis -B and C diagnoses.
