China contributes $1m for FATA IDPs

The aid aims to provide for food, nutrition and assistance to displaced people in FATA, K-P

China has contributed one million dollars to World Food Programme for the provision of food and nutrition assistance to displaced people and repatriated families in Fata and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The food assistance will be distributed among 158,000 people in Peshawar, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and Bannu districts, North and South Waziristan, Khyber, Kurram, Mohmand and Orakzai agencies, Radio Pakistan reports.

Speaking at a signing ceremony in Islamabad, Minister for States and Frontier Region, Abdul Quadir Baloch assured continued support to the World Food Programme for its operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA.

Ambassador of China to Pakistan, Yao Jing, said the contribution will serve as an opportunity to begin a long-lasting partnership between World Food Programme in Pakistan and China.

Pakistan borrows another $500m from China

Pakistan recently obtained foreign commercial loan of $500 million from the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), a move aimed at stopping official foreign currency reserves from slipping to dangerous levels.

The finance ministry had informed parliament in June this year that it would obtain $1 billion as commercial loans during 2017-18 that will end in June next year.
