Zardari calls for greater private sector involvement

President seeks private sector involvement in developmental projects.

President Asif Ali Zardari has reiterated that the business community and leading entrepreneurs must come forward and create a consensus among all political parties to address economic challenges faced by the country.


Speaking at a presentation given by the Pakistan Business Council at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Friday, Zardari asserted that economic policies must remain unchanged in case of changes in the government. He said the government firmly believed in taking all stakeholders on board to tackle critical economic issues, as tackling economic challenges and bringing the economy back on track was a responsibility shared by everyone.

The president informed that the government would continue to pursue its economic reform agenda despite the difficulties and challenges faced. He identified five major areas for reforms, which he believed need to be addressed on an urgent basis to promote economic welfare. The areas include macroeconomic management, energy, poverty alleviation, education and regional trade.

Zardari also called on businessmen to make consortiums of leading entrepreneurs to enter into a public-private partnership to run various state enterprises with management control.  He also reiterated his call for maximum involvement of the private sector in every mega developmental projects so the sector could take full advantage of the opportunities offered.

He thanked members of the Pakistan Business Council in seeking a consensus to address the critical economic issues, assuring that suggestions and recommendations of council would be forwarded to the government for consideration.

Ahmer Ali | 12 years ago | Reply Assalam-o-Allaikum Warahmatullah.Very strange.The question rises that why our leaders don't invest their own money (deposited in foreign banks' accounts) in Pakistan and why foreign and local private business personals are provoked to invest their money in public-private sector of Pakistan?Unless our leaders invest their own money in Pakistan they can't increase foreign and local investment in public-private sector of Pakistan.Because our leaders foreign banks' accounts are alarming and show even prove that Pakistan's economical conditions have been on the edge especially now-a-days and to increase and remove reservations of foreign and local investors to invest money in public-private sectors of Pakistan first our leaders shall have to show sincerity and honesty in this regard then they can easily provoke foreign and local investment in public-private sectors of Pakistan.
