10 districts deemed high priority for school education department

The matter to support these districts will be taken up in CEOs conference among other issues

LAHORE: The Punjab School Education Department (SED) has decided to focus on 10 districts of the province, which it had deemed to be high priority, and will discuss the matter in its upcoming District Education Authorities (DEAs) Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) conference.

The 10 districts included Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Muzaffargarh, Multan, Bahawalnagar, Faisalabad, Lahore, Bahawalpur and Khanewal. The matter, to support these high priority districts, will be taken up in the CEOs conference on January 6, 2018 among other issues.

In a letter issued to all DEAs CEOs, the SED had issued the agenda of the conference, which included a discussion on supporting these 10 districts. The conference will be chaired by SED Secretary Dr Allah Baksh Malik and will be held at the Quaid-e-Azam Academy for Educational Development (QAED).

The agenda items for the conference included preparation for the upcoming Literacy and Numeracy Drive (LND) tests and upward mobility package for teachers for all categories that were to be awarded until December 30, 2017. The CEOs were also directed to provide certificates for successful upward mobility packages in the conference.

Other agenda items included phase 2 of the enrollment campaign 2017. The CEOs had been directed to bring updated status of achievement of class-wise enrollment targets and a progress report on surveys of out-of-school children in their respective districts. The CEOs were directed to complete tagging of students and teachers in SED’s School Information System (SIS). The CEOs were to submit certificates of 100% registration of tablets used for SIS and completion of tagging of students and teachers in their jurisdiction.

The conference will also discuss the status of schools of Public School Support Programme (PSSP) under the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF). The conference will discuss the functioning of PSSP schools, availability and utilisation of Non Salary Budget (NSB) funds and Faroogh-e-Taleem Fund (FTF). The CEOs will give the details of the PSSP schools along with the details of the NSB and FTF balance available in schools in their areas.

Other topics to be discussed were the enrollment status in schools that had been upgraded to include double – morning and evening – shifts. Furthermore, progress on admissions at the newly-upgraded higher secondary would be presented.

Other agenda items included establishment of Early Childhood Education (ECE) rooms in schools, recruitment of educators and Assistant Education Officers (AEOs) and status of computer and science labs.

The meeting will also discuss the progress on the schemes in the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2017-18. The discussion will entail progress on administrative approvals for individual schemes, up-gradation and reconstruction of schools, including those buildings that had been deemed dangerous, provision of missing facilities and procurement of equipment under ADP 2017-18.
