Awareness: Media urged to educate people in post-modern era

Speakers say it Needs to contribute more actively in bringing positive change in society

ISLAMABAD: Speakers at a conference underlined the need for media’s proactive role to educate the general public in the post-modern era needs.

The media needed to contribute more actively in bringing positive change in the society, which will help improve living standard of the common man, they said in the inaugural session of the AIOU’s two-day Media Conference on needs of the post-modern era.

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) held the conference with an aim to highlight responsibilities of journalists in the era of modern technologies, a press release said.

Speakers including renowned columnists Sajjad Mir and Khurshid Nadeem, besides AIOU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Shahid Siddiqui asserted that the media should address the ground realities, keeping in view the cultural and social needs of the society.

They called for having strong partnership and regular interaction between the media and academia to address the future challenges, particularly in the education sector.

Deliberating upon the theme of the two-day conference, ‘ Post-Modern Times: Challenges & Prospects’, the speakers hoped that the event would help the young researchers to interact with senior ones to understand their future responsibilities towards the society.

The event, arranged by the AIOU’s Department of Mass Communication was the part of series of activities, being arranged by the university on regular basis to highlight the importance of media.
