Gakhar Plaza remembered: 13 firemen died saving lives in 2008

Thirteen valiant firefighters who went down in flames saving lives in the 2008 blaze of Ghakkar Plaza were remembered on their ninth anniversary. Upon directions of the Punjab Emergency Service Rescue 1122 DG Dr Rizwan Naseer rich tributes were paid to sacrifices of the 13 Shuhda-e-Ghakkar Plaza all over the province on the eve of their ninth anniversary. Out of 13, four were from Rescue 1122, one from Municipal Fire Brigade Rawalpindi, six from Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) Wah Cant and two were from Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Islamabad. In Rawalpindi, District Emergency Officer Dr Abdur Rahman, along with Head of Community Safety and Information Deeba Shahnaz, Emergency Officer Operations Rescue 1122 Ali Hussain, EO Officer USAR Rescue 1122 Hamza Ali Khan, Fire and Safety Association of Pakistan Vice President Ghulam Muhamamd Naz and a large number of rescuers were present at the ceremony to remember the sacrifices of the firemen.
