In the wake of sexual misconduct allegations that have taken Hollywood by storm, Matt spoke to Peter Travers from ABC about the cloud of indictments that have taken over the industry. The Syriana actor who has previously worked with Harvey Weinstein and Ben Affleck, both of whom have been accused of sexual harassment, said men are being put into “one big bucket” and that there is a huge spectrum of behaviour.
He said, “There’s a difference between touching someone inappropriately and rape or child molestation. Both of these behaviours need to be confronted and eradicated without question, but they shouldn’t be conflated.”
When Minnie heard about these comments, she took to Twitter stating, “It’s so interesting how men with all these opinions about women’s differentiation between sexual misconduct, assault and rape reveal themselves to be utterly tone deaf. As a result, being systematically part of the problem.”
Gosh it’s so *interesting how men with all these opinions about women’s differentiation between sexual misconduct, assault and rape reveal themselves to be utterly tone deaf and as a result, systemically part of the problem( *profoundly unsurprising)

Many other women showed their support to Minnie’s statement. In an interview with The Guardian, the Ella Enchanted actor explained that she felt the need to say something about it as men “cannot understand what abuse is like on a daily level.”
She also added that a man – or anyone else for that matter - cannot speak on behalf of any woman’s abuse. “It’s so individual and personal. It’s galling when a powerful man steps up and starts dictating the terms, whether he intends to or not,” explained the Ripple Effect star.
More women from Hollywood such as Alyssa Milano also came forth to criticize Matt’s hazy point of view. In a series of tweets, she addressed the Interstellar actor saying that women have been silenced for too long. Comparing sexual assault to cancer, the Charmed actor tweeted, “There are different stages of cancer; some more treatable than others but it’s still cancer. Sexual harassment, misconduct, assault and violence is a systematic disease but the tumour is being cut out right now, without anesthesia.”
