LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government has created history by successfully steering the country out of darkness.

“The nation will always remember this historical accomplishment of the PML-N to end power crisis and our efforts to complete the energy projects will be written in golden letters in the country’s history,” said the Punjab CM while talking to a PML-N delegation in London on Sunday.

He said that along with energy projects all other development projects have been expedited to completion, which has eliminated darkness from our country, adding that “our government has set up many power plants from its own resources while China, being a great friend, has also cooperated a great deal in this regard.”

“The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a great project of development and prosperity for Pakistan, which is a game changer,” Shehbaz said, adding that “after completion, it will not only change the destiny of Pakistan, but that of the whole region”.

The CM said that development projects were being completed swiftly under the CPEC and it had opened doors to foreign investment in Pakistan.

“Chinese investment of billions of rupees in Pakistan has created various opportunities of employment for the people of Pakistan,” he added.

He said that energy projects are being moved forward rapidly under the CPEC with an investment of $36 billion.

With this unprecedented investment of China, “projects to generate electricity through coal, solar, hydel and other sources have been initiated which after completion are providing the much-needed electricity to Pakistan”.

Furthermore, he added that when PML-N came to power, energy crisis had become very intriguing in the country as poverty, unemployment and energy crisis were the gifts of the corruption of former rulers who lined their pockets by mugging national resources but did not pay any attention to end electricity shortage.

“Rather than plundering national assets, if the former rulers had paid any heed towards energy crisis perhaps the country would not have been left in darkness,” he said.

If Sharif convicted, Shehbaz will be PML-N candidate for PM slot

The CM said, “On one hand we are confronting these former corrupt rulers who have been marauding state wealth, whereas on the other we have those who are indulged in negative politics. The nation will never forgive the people who are pushing the country into darkness.”

He said that people of Pakistan want solutions to their problems and prosperity of the country, which “is the agenda of the government of PML-N government”.

Additionally, the CM hoped that the people will make politics of public service, reliance and transparency successful in the 2018 elections.
