NLC completes 60 % work on highway

Project manager says the project will serve as an important route for CPEC

PESHAWAR: National Logistics Cell (NLC) is executing construction work on one of the important sections of the Hakla-Dera Ismail Khan Highway of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Western Route on fast track basis, completing around 60 % of the total project.

Project Manager Col Kamal, during his visit to the project site, said that the 54.56-kilometer long Expressway from Yarik to Rehmani Khel was scheduled to be completed by August 30, 2018 at the cost of Rs13.25 billion.

He said that the package also comprised construction of 60 tunnels, four bridges, two interchanges, 22 service ducts and two toll plazas. According to him NLC had employed highly skilled engineers and construction workforce along with commissioning of latest equipment and machinery to ensure timely completion of the project. National Highway Authority (NHA) was awarded Package 1 of the construction of Bharma Bahatar - DI Khan Motorway as part of CPEC Western Route to NLC in an open bidding and work on the project began with effect from September 1, 2016.

A visit of the local journalists was organised by NLC to apprise media about the progress of the project.  Briefing the media, he said that NLC has so far been able to complete 44-kilometer improved sub grade, 33-kilometer sub base and19-kilometer AGBC.

Moreover, three bridges, 52 culverts, four underpasses and 22 ducts have also been constructed by NLC engineers.

“Construction of CPEC project is a matter of pride for NLC and work is being done with dedication and spirit of national service. The project will not only drastically reduce the distance between Islamabad and Dera Ismail Khan but will serve as an important route for CPEC,” Col Kamal said.
