Kashmiris pay rich tributes to fallen fighter

Jamal Afghani remembered on his 24th martyrdom anniversary

MUZAFFARABAD: People of Jammu and Kashmir will never forget the sacrifices of their martyrs for the cause of liberation of the occupied Kashmir from India.

Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League (JKPFL) Chairman and former Convener of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Muhammad Farooq Rehmani said on the 24th martyrdom anniversary of renowned freedom fighter Jamal Afghani on Saturday.

While addressing a public gathering of Kashmiris organised by JKPFL to commemorate martyrdom of a pioneer of ongoing struggle, Rehmani said that Afghani as a zealous youth spent his times and life from 1970s to 1993 solely for mobilising youth for freedom of his motherland.

Afghani joined armed struggle for liberating Kashmir from Indian clutches in late 1980s and was arrested by the occupational toops and martyred in custody on December 15, 1993 at Srinagar-Kupwara highway in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK).

While paying rich tributes to the martyred leader and his dedication for the cause of Kashmir, he said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir had rendered great sacrifices of life, honour and property during the last 27 years and both men and women were equally playing their role and urging on the world community to facilitate a peaceful and durable solution of the Kashmir dispute in line with the UNCIP resolutions.
