ISLAMABAD: Inspector General Islamabad Police Sultan Azam Temuri has suspended two policemen on allegation of corruption and ordered an inquiry against them.

A police spokesperson said ASI Naeem and Constable Parwan Shah were suspended for their alleged links with criminals.

AIG (Operations) Asmatullah Jenujo will hold an inquiry against the two officials, who were working in CIA and have now been directed to report to the headquarters. While suspending the two cops, Temuri renewed his pledge to crack down on corruption in police department. The spokesperson said that the IG had received a complaint that the two officials allegedly received bribes from drug and liquor peddlers.

However, some police officials who were privy to the development questioned the veracity of the allegation against the two officials and the ‘source’ of the complaint, saying some elements with vested interests were peddling such claims against CIA police officials because their interests were being hurt by the CIA action against liquor mafia.

They also expressed reservations at suspending the two officials and publicising their names along with their ‘alleged crime’ in the media without even hearing them.

“This trend of suspending officials without inquiry should be discouraged as this looks more of a show off  than addressing genuine concerns of police and public,” said a police officer.
