PESHAWAR:

Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Saturday rejected the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s demand for snap polls, calling it untimely and illogical.

The QWP chief was addressing a public meeting after the inauguration of Sui Gas project at Kot Tarnab district in Charsadda.

Sherpao said that if elections were held after fresh delimitation of the constituencies, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa would get three additional seats in the National Assembly. A fresh delimitation, which would happen after the passage of a related bill, required time, and in case of early elections, the province would be deprived of three additional seats.

‘Political parties can demand snap polls’

“The nomination of a five-member parliamentary committee to oversee the proposed amendment to the Constitution over delimitations is a good omen,” said the QWP chief, adding that the matter should not be delayed further.

He said that no one should be jubilant over the disqualification of a politician, adding that all political parties should work for the betterment of the country.

Talking about Afghanistan, Sherpao said that good relations with the neighbouring country “are vital for regional peace and stability”. He added that concerted efforts were required to end the turmoil in the region.

“QWP would not sit idle and continue to raise its voice for Pakhtun rights,” he told the gathering.

He said the QWP always fulfilled its election promises, adding that the party had been working for the welfare of the masses and would leave no stone unturned in this regard. Earlier, Sherpao also inaugurated the supply line of the Sui Gas project in the area.
