Sindh government offers to renovate Faiz Mahal

KARACHI: The Sindh government has offered to repair and renovate Faiz Mahal and preserve Kotdiji Fort.

The statement was made by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali while speaking at a Question Hour session related to Culture, Tourism and Archaeology on Monday.

"We have asked Mir of Khairpur to hand over this building to us and we will preserve it as a historical heritage", he said and informed that however the Mir said that it is his residence and can not be handed to government.

He said that Kotdiji Fort had also been ignored and it is a historical heritage site, and steps would be taken not only to preserve it, but also its historical value would be promoted with the help of publications.

Meanwhile the Sindh Minister for Culture Sassui Palejo said that protection of historical buildings and heritage sites is the responsibility of department of archaeology and museums, Government of Pakistan and that the provincial government does not have the funds for such projects in their budget.

She said these historical sites were being ignored for the last 62 years, while some of the sites have been handed to Sindh which are now being surveyed to assess their repair and maintenance works.

She informed that on the directive of Supreme Court, the encroachments have been removed from Khao Jo Daro in the North-West of Mirpurkhas.
