Journalist Nargis Khanum laid to rest
She was among first female English reporters of Karachi

Journalist Nargis Khanum, who was among the first female English reporters in Karachi, passed away on Tuesday.
Khanum died while she was on her way to the Karachi Press Club (KPC) in her car. She suffered a heart attack and managed to park the car near Governor House. However, she could not survive the heart attack.

Khanum was born in Pune in 1943. She moved to Pakistan along with her parents after the independence and pursued her masters in English literature from University of Karachi. She started her career in 1966 and was among the first female reporters working for Dawn on regular basis. She also worked for The Star and The Sun.
According to KPC member and writer Akhtar Balouch, Khanum was a learned person and always seen with a book in her hand. "She was a good chess players and journalist Ghazi Salahuddin was her regular chess partner as they played chess for hours in the chess room at KPC," Balouch added.

Khanum enjoyed reputation of being a disciplined person in both professional or personal capacity. She was also involved in KPC administration and had recently been writing a weekly column for Business Recorder.
Her funeral prayers were held on Wednesday at Sultan Masjid in Defence after Zuhr prayers. She was laid to rest at the DHA Phase I graveyard.
