CM wants the Aga Khan to visit Karachi every year

Shah chairs meeting on cleanliness, security before Prince Karim Aga Khan’s visit

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah reviewed on Wednesday security arrangements for the visit of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan and said that since the Aga Khan was coming to the city after 17 years, he must be received in a manner that would encourage him to visit every year.

The security review meeting was attended by Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal, Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro, Chief Secretary Rizwan Memon,  Inspector-General of Police Allah Dino Khawaja, Karachi AIG Karachi Mushtaq Maher, Commissioner Ejaz Khan, the deputy director-general of the Rangers, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board Managing Director Hashim Raza, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Municipal Commissioner Dr Asghar Shaikh, the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board managing director, Karachi Package Programme Manager Khalid Masroor, K-Electric’s Faisal Jahangir, representative of the Aga Khani Community and Colonel Noor, security officer of jamaatkhanas.

Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that the purpose of inviting all of them was to remind them of their duties. "I want proper cleanliness in the city, particularly the areas where the Aga Khan would visit, uninterrupted power supply, proper security arrangements, traffic arrangement and removal of unauthorised establishments such as patharas and encroachments under flyovers," he said.



The police chief and Rangers representative briefed the chief minister about their security plan to escort the prince and ensure vigilance before and after his visits. Officers from civic agencies also assured that they would ensure proper water supply, removal of debris, filth and garbage from the areas, cleanliness of nullahs and repair of roads leading to jamaatkhanas.

The chief minister personally visited the jamaatkhana in Clifton and discussed security and other matters with the management.

The CM and meeting participants also visited the jamaatkhana in Garden, where he directed the IG to deploy policemen on the roofs of nearby buildings. "Garden area is thickly populated therefore deploy efficient traffic cops here," Shah said.

He also directed the IG and commissioner to make necessary security arrangements for the followers of the Aga Khan who would come from all over Pakistan to Karachi.
