Corruption: Petition seeks record of projects

LAHORE: Advocate Ghazi Illmuddin on Wednesday filed a petition before the Lahore High Court requesting that the record of expenditure on the rehabilitation of flood-affected areas and National Highway Authority projects should be brought in to be examined.

The petitioner stated after the 2005 earthquake, Pakistan received aid of billions of dollars but the lives of the affected people did not change. These people, he said, were still living without shelter, proper roads and other basic facilities.

He stated that under Nawaz Sharif’s government, a huge sum was collected in the name of  ‘Qarz utaro Mulk sanvaro’, but conditions did not alter. He submitted that there were stories of corruption in the National Highway Authority, the construction of the Ring Road, the renovation of police stations and other projects.

He said the record regarding these projects should be brought before the court to examine how money had been looted and action should be taken against all responsible persons.
