Lyari 'gang shooting' leaves two dead, six injured

Incident takes place after a feud over extortion in Baghdadi Town of the Karachi neighbourhood

At least two people were killed and six others, including a woman, injured after a feud over extortion money took place in Baghdadi neighbourhood of Karachi’s Lyari on Tuesday.

According to police, Lyari ‘gang-war’ suspect Bobby opened fire at the residence of Raees Niazi, who had refused to pay the former Rs1 million in extortion, Express News reported.

Raees was killed on the spot while Bobby and his associate Fazaldad received serious bullet wounds in retaliatory fire from the victim’s brother. Fazaldad later succumbed to his injuries.

Police officials said six bystanders, including a woman, were also injured in the exchange of fire, who were shifted to hospital.

An investigation into the incident was underway. According to police, Bobby’s elder brother was also a member of gang-war, who had died in an encounter in the past.

Rozina Ejaz, Khan Muhammad, Zahid Shaukat and Saleh Mohammad were among the injured.
