Mercury plunges after rain in South Punjab

SARGODHA: Light showers hit different districts of South Punjab and its adjoining areas on Monday. The downpour significantly dropped the temperature and turned the weather chilly.

At least 20 millimeters of rain was recorded in Rahim Yar Khan, 10 millimeters in Multan, 13 millimeters in Bahawalpur, 8 millimeters in Sahiwal, 3 millimeters in Okara and Toba Tek Singh, 2 millimeters in Dera Ghazi Khan, Jhang and Sialkot, while one millimeter of rain was received in Kasur, Bhakkar and Faisalabad.

The cool breeze and light rain provided relief to people from the dry weather that had been continuing for the last many days causing various diseases, including flu, influenza, sore throat and others. The light rain has also provided a sigh of relief to farmers who had called this rain a blessing for their yields especially kinnow and other seasonal crops.

People have expressed their happiness as they feel relieved from the dry weather. A large number of people came out of their homes as soon as the rain started to enjoy the weather.

The Met office has forecast more rains in different parts of Punjab during the next 24 hours.

Earlier in May, heavy rainfall had lashed South Punjab reducing the temperature which had gone up to 47 degrees Celsius. Due to the heavy downpour, the weather had become pleasant and people in large numbers thronged parks and other public places to enjoy the cool weather.

The rainfall also brought a sigh of relief for the people of Cholistan as the region was facing a severe threat of drought.
