Chinese students keen to learn Pakistani languages

CUC wants deeper cooperation in mass communication, translation and cross-culture studies

As ties between Pakistan and China deepen in the wake of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) another Chinese university has expressed interest in joint programmes with local varsities.

The Communication University of China (CUC) is keen on joint programmes in various disciplines with the National University of Modern Languages (NUML).

Apart from language programmes, the Chinese varsity is interested in signing a Memorandum of Understanding with other departments at NUML including mass communication, translation and interpretation and cross-culture studies.

This was stated by the CUC Director Liang Yan while exchanging views with the NUML Director General Brigadier (retired) Muhammad Ibrahim in a meeting during his visit to NUML along with delegates on Monday.

The CUC director said that his varsity was eager to explore student exchange programmes to raise the standard of education in both countries. He added that his students were willing to learn local languages including Pashto, Balochi, Urdu and Punjabi to play a better role in the CPEC project.

NUML Director General Brig Ibrahim said that they too were interested in faculty and student exchange programmes, especially for the mass communication department. He suggested that they could help CUC and their students in teaching different regional and international languages.

NUML Registrar Brig (retired) Aminullah Khan brief the delegates about NUML and later the delegation visited different departments.

Acad Director Dr Zubair, Social Sciences Dean Dr Sufiana Khatoon Malik and others were also present on the occasion.
