HYDERABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has blamed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan for the problems faced by the country.

“To rid Pakistan of the multifarious problems and to improve the country’s economy we once again will get the power back from them,” he vowed while addressing a public meeting and talking to the media in Umerkot on Sunday. “Only PPP can offer a solution to these problems.”

About the PTI chairman, he said, “They talk of new Pakistan but they don’t know how to run the country and take its economy forward.”

Nawaz's tirade against judges reveals his 'agenda', says Zardari

Zardari believed that Sharif had been cornered in the wake of the Panama Papers leaks about offshore wealth and the subsequent developments from his ouster by the Supreme Court to the recent protests over a withdrawn election law amendment. He said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government spent Rs10 on a project that could be built in Re1.

He said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was a gift of PPP and PML-N had realised much later that the project was a game changer.

The former president said water supply was being extended to Tharparkar and watercourses were being built in Umerkot for better irrigation and prosperity in the area. He advised farmers to adopt the technique of drip irrigation, which required less water without reducing yield.

Zardari, who is accused of supporting the sugar mills to the detriment of farmers, also said, “We want to provide good rates to the growers but they should also improve the sugarcane crop.”

He said he had asked Senator Hari Ram Kishorilal to arrange a public meeting of PPP in Mirpur Khas. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah, former CM Qaim Ali Shah and provincial ministers accompanied Zardari who attended the wedding of provincial minister Ali Mardan’s son Ameer Ali Shah and later a reception hosted by MNA Nawab Yousuf Talpur and MPA Taimur Talpur.
