IG Sindh takes notice of woman's poisoning

Woman remains hospitalised since last two weeks

KARACHI: Sindh Inspector-General (IG) of Police Allah Dino Khawaja has taken notice of an incident in which a young woman in the Korangi neighbourhood was forced to consume poisoned water by her in-laws.

A young woman, S*, was allegedly tortured by her in-laws in Korangi Industrial Area. Her father blamed her in-laws for torturing her and then forcing her to consume poisoned water.

The woman has been admitted to a private hospital since two weeks. The father said his 18-year-old daughter was married about eight months ago. He added that his son-in-law's family tortured his daughter and when he approached the police to lodge a complaint, the police refused to register the case.

The father also alleged that his family was facing threats by his daughter's in-laws. He added that the father-in-law and brothers-in-law of his daughter tortured her for conversing with her aunt. The father said he wanted to take his daughter to their hometown of Larkana.

Taking notice of the incident, the IG sought a report from East DIG Sultan Khowaja.
