This weekend, WWE came to India with a super live event which promised the veteran Triple H vs India’s very own Jinder Mahal in the main event. In a huge surprise, Bollywood star Varun Dhawan served as the guest ring announcer for the match.
In the end, though, the much-anticipated match went in the Cerebral Assassin's favour after two pedigrees put The Modern-Day Maharaja down for the three-count. But while Mahal lost the biggest match of his career, even in defeat, he had earned Triple H and the New Delhi crowd's respect, as they chanted "This is Awesome" during the bout.
After the match, The Game praised his opponent, saying he had earned his respect and never to let his critics make him doubt himself. He told the audience that “India is in good hands with Jinder Mahal.” The Maharaja, in turn, thanked the King of Kings and even convinced him to join in on the traditional Punjabi dance, bhangra.
Mimicking Mahal, Triple busted out his move as the crowd roared in delight. First, he danced with Mahal. Then, his two partners, Sunil and Samir Singh took turns dancing with the 14-time WWE Champion. Soon after entertaining the audience with the typical Punjabi dance step, Triple H returned to his Assassin mode and surprised Samir with a crushing Pedigree.
Later, Mahal thanked the audience and promised them he’d be the WWE Champion the next time they return to India. “Raj karunga raj!” he yelled as he exited the ring.
Triple H’s dancing is already making headlines across India. If there’s one saying that truly defines the sports entertainment aspect of the WWE, it’s “never say never”. And it’s true that we never thought we would see The Game do a bhangra dance.
With all the desi touch in WWE, we can only imagine what we could possibly see next. John Cena vs Akshay Kumar in a steel cage match? AJ Styles with a 450 Splash off the Taj Mahal dome? Roman Reigns vs Aamir Khan in a street Dangal (street fight)?
