Substandard food: PFA seals nine wedding halls

PFA has also served improvement notices to dozens of marriage halls

LAHORE: Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has sealed nine wedding halls and catering companies for serving unhealthy food in wedding ceremonies on Saturday.

On the directions of PFA Director General Noorul-Amin Mengal, PFA food safety officers checked more than 375 wedding halls and imposed fines of more than Rs600,000 on 17 wedding halls. PFA officials sealed nine wedding halls in Lahore, two in Gujranwala and one each in Multan and Rawalpindi.

Action was taken in different areas of the city including Gulberg, Bedian Road, Model Town, Faisal Town and Defence. PFA had also served improvement notices to dozens of marriage halls. Mengal said that all catering companies were sealed for serving substandard food in the events.

He said that a huge quantity of low quality food was being served in the ceremonies that may cause various health diseases. He said that PFA teams were checking wedding halls and catering companies on a daily basis for ensuring the presence of healthy food in wedding ceremonies.
