KARACHI: The Institute of Business Management (IoBM) held its 20th convocation in Karachi on Saturday at which 900 students from various disciplines were awarded degrees. Gold medals were awarded to 10 students for their outstanding performance.

Governor Mohammad Zubair attended the event as the chief guest. “During my years at the Institute of Business Administration, renowned national and international organisations would approach us for campus hiring. IoBM is also regarded as one of the best educational institutions of the country,” he praised. “The students should be thankful to their parents for their support in helping them graduate with such an august institution as IoBM,” the governor said.

“Higher education can transform the fate of a nation. Effective and comprehensive strategies are needed by our universities so that our students take full advantage of innovations and discoveries in various fields and effectively prepare themselves for future challenges,” he said.

Zubair also invited the gold medalists for a special dinner at Governor House.

Speaking on the occasion, IoBM Rector and Executive Director Talib Syed Karim said that wealth and social status should not be considered benchmarks of a person’s success. “It is time that you brace yourself for the challenges [you will face]. Success is not about making compromises for personal interests,” he said. “The real success lies in denying the lures of personal interest and compromises. I wish you all the success in practical life,” he told the graduating students.

Nine hundred students of MBA, BBA, BS in computer science and MS in engineering management were awarded degrees at the convocation. Thirty-six outstanding academic achievers were given merit certificates, while 10 students were awarded gold medals.

This day is a testimony to four years of hard work,” she said. “It is a fruit which has been reaped after a long period of struggle. I am already working but I expect to land an even better opportunity now,” she said excitedly.

“In the previous year, I stood 15th in my class. This year, I made a lot of effort and not only bagged first position but a gold medal as well!” said Simran, a BBA student.
