KARACHI: The nath (nose ring) originates from the Mughals, crafted with real creative zeal. It’s detailed with intricate stonework and sophisticated chains to augment its overall beauty and is an adornment that represents tradition and culture. More significantly, it is the symbolic value of a South Asian bride.

However, times have changed and many have found ways to give the nath a more contemporary feel, including Hollywood celebs. Let’s have a look at all the different ways the traditional nose ring has evolved and how it's been worn in more recent years.

1) Amrita Singh

Bollywood actor Amrita Singh's nose ring is undoubtedly the most popular and has made headlines ever since this picture was released. She made more than just a statement with this jewellery piece, to say the least.

2) Sonam Kapoor

At the opening ceremony of the 66th Cannes Film Festival back in 2013, Indian actor Sonam Kapoor opted for a traditional look, wearing an elegant kundan studded nath. Talk about being traditionally fashion-forward!

3) Naomi Campbell

Last month at the WSJ Magazine 2017 Innovator Awards, supermodel Naomi Campbell chose to wear a super conventional gunmetal coloured nath - if I can call it that. It's essentially a pink-purple nose stud with a chain attached, leading up to and forming into an earring. It was an instance of retro chic with a modernistic twist!

4) Kendall Jenner

Kardashian sister and supermodel Kendall Jenner, who has recently dethroned Gisele Bundchen to become the highest-paid model, went for a very 'out-there' look with a silver, more authentic nath at The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2014. I must say, it paired very well with her bohemian look.

5) Syra Shehroz

Pakistani actor Syra Shehroz wore this gold multi-chained nath with pearl and kundan details at this year's Bridal Couture week. The intricately-crafted nath exuded royalty and is definitely one to remember.

6) Sadaf Kanwal

Sadaf stunned in this traditionally oversized but highly unique nath. It boasted pearl ornamentation and convoluted gold detailing - only adding to the supermodel's sharp features.

Although these beauties have managed to pull off these striking naths, your history books will most definitely vouch for the fact that jewellery wasn't always a dominion limited to women.

Throughout the years, many men started exempting themselves from most forms of such ornaments but since the feminism ‘trend’ has made waves, gender equality is something that is at its forefront - amen to that!

7) Ranveer Singh

Celebrities continuously experiment with their looks but the most experimental of them all, according to me, would be Ranveer Singh, due to his quirky style. The Bajirao Mastani star sported a very modern looking nath - a septum nose ring with a chain forming into an earring, for the February 2016 cover shoot of L’Officiel India magazine.

Although it may not be your traditional nose ring, I think it's even more daring and he definitely pulled it off!

8) Akshay Kumar

Now, this is a rare sight. Years ago, Akshay Kumar wore a similar nath with a minimal chain attached from the nostril to the earlobe, also for a photoshoot. And I think he is completely rocking it.
